NEARBY HIKES AND WALKS

Sugar Pine Point  (2 miles):  From the Sunny View House, it is an easy walk down Sunnyview Dr, across Highway 89
to the bike path, then north on the bike path (1/2 mile) and right on the Sugar Pine Point Road to the Ehrman
Mansion.  Tour the Mansion; it is a great example of “Old Tahoe”, circa early 1900s.

Desolation National Wilderness Area:  The trailhead accessing the Desolation Wilderness is 300 yards south of the
entrance to Meeks Bay, on the west side of the highway.  Lake Genevieve (4 miles each way) is the first of 6 lakes
(Genevieve, Crag, Hidden, Shadow, Stony Ridge and Rubicon) all within the first 7 miles of a trail that can take you to
Emerald Bay, or via the Pacific Crest Trail, to Mexico or Canada!  The hike to Lake Genevieve has a 1200 foot
elevation gain but from Genevieve to Rubicon Lake the trail is relatively flat.

Bliss Park to Emerald Point (5 miles):  Bliss State Park is 6 miles south of Sunny View.  The walk to Emerald Point,
at the entrance to Emerald Bay, is a beautiful walk along a magnificent stretch of Tahoe lakefront.  Watch for Golden
Eagles and Bald Eagles and check out the eagle’s nest across water from Emerald Point, at the entry to Emerald Bay.

Vikingsholm: (1 mile):  The trailhead is located on Highway 89, at Emerald Bay.  If you have limited time for outings, a
visit to the Vikingsholm at Emerald Bay should be your first priority.

Eagle Lake (1 mile):  The trailhead is at Emerald Bay, on the west side of Highway 89, just past the parking area and
trailhead leading down to the Vikingsholm.  This is a very popular, beautiful and easy hike.

BIKING

The West Shore Bike Trail:  Across Highway 89 from the entrance to Glenridge Subdivision, the West Shore bike trail
leads through Tahoe City and as far north as Kings Beach (20 miles) or as far west as Squaw Valley (20 miles).  Take
the trail to Tahoma (2 miles) for an espresso or breakfast at the Stony Ridge Café.

Chambers Land and General Creek:  Located 5 miles north of Sunny View the General Creek/Miller Lake area has
miles and miles of dirt roads and single-track trails. Pick up a trail map at The Olympic Bike Shop, 620 N. Lake Blvd., in
Tahoe City.  Cell phone coverage in not dependable as you head into the mountains and away from the Lake; ride with
a buddy.

Blackwood Creek:  Located 6 miles north of Sunny View at the Caspian Recreation Park.  For the first 4 miles the
paved Blackwood Creek road is flat.  At the 4-mile post, the slope changes to 9 %, and continues to the summit of
Monitor Pass at milepost 9.  For the aggressive (and well conditioned) off road bike enthusiast, leave the paved road
before it crosses Blackwood Creek (north side of the creek) near the 4-mile post and take the single-track trail to the
summit (a major climb); or take the paved road to the top and descent via the trail, a very technical descent.
